The Amazon First Read results are in… Kind of…

I mentioned recently that I was finally reading a book from Amazon’s first reads program that I was enjoying. After a few rounds of stinkers, I had pretty much given up on it. I finished one from it today though and it was…

Fine. It wasn’t excellent, but it wasn’t terrible. I’d say solidly average. Some good, some bad, overall fairly forgettable and some moments where I checked how much was left.

That’s not even the book I had posted about though, so there’s a second chance to impress me in the running. We’ll see if it can be anything better than “ok at best!”

Penryn and the end of days saved me this week

Hey y’all! I started a re-read of a favorite young adult dystopian novel of mine called Angelfall by Susan Ee. I started that on June 3rd (5 days ago) and have now finished the other 2 books in the series as well without really planning to do so. I posted my June TBR on June 1 all proud to have it set, and by June 3 I was already doing something else. 🤣

It’s pretty hard to resist those stunning covers, right? Anyway, I was just having a crappy day and my reading had felt quite stunted (in large part due to the slogs of Pachinko and Dune which I had recently ended). I was going through my Kindle thinking, what can I read that will be comfortable and familiar and exciting?

Angellfall was my clear answer. 🥰

I’ve had a stressy few weeks and these really helped give me something to enjoy and escape into. So now that I’ve finished them, what’s up next? Hmmm…

The $1 book I got for free on PangoBooks

Hey y’all!

Recently, PangoBooks had a promotion where they gave out $5 credit. So I of course found a book that was $1 with $3.50 base shipping cost and got a book for free! There was a surprisingly large and quality selection of books for a dollar which was great.

I ended up getting Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale. I had never heard of it before, but was curious (yes, the cover drew me in first) and the blurb sounded great. I figured for a free book, why not take a chance? 😊

I’m about to start it and I’m very curious to see what I think of it! If you’ve read it before, drop a comment and let me know how lucky I got to find it for this deal. 🙂

Starting the year with the joy of a random day off ^.^

Hey y’all! I started 2022 off with an extra day off from work so I could bask in doing whatever the heck I wanted for a day while everyone else performed tasks. Suckers!!! 😁 Unsurprisingly, that turned into reading… all day… for literally about 6 or 7 hours.

I re-read the webcomic Let’s Play because the third season is out. I hadn’t planned to read it all in one day, but it’s all so good! 😊

So I took a little bit of luxury to start the new year. Yay for small condos.

Books from Christmas!

Hey y’all!

As always, my love picked out a few books for me for Christmas gifts. I don’t know how he decides, but he does a great job. 😊

And this year I was especially impressed:

Me: *opens one of the gifts*

Me: *jaw drops, eyes sparkle* How did you KNOW!!! 😍😍

Bun: *smug and satisfied* I have my ways 😏

The reason I’m so particularly blown away by this one is because I included in a post yesterday — which there’s no way he could have read since it was posted after shopping — with note about how it was one of three that I was definitely planning to get one way or another.

It feels good to be known and loved so well. ^.^ And that wasn’t the only good pick — thanks bun! And now I’m off…

It has gold gilt edges and a ribbon bookmark 😍

I’m home from vacation!

Hey y’all!

If you recall earlier this week I had mentioned writing posts using the WordPress app on my phone, and how it was… a bit clunky. 😅 I was using the app since I was away from home on a much needed vacation. The original plan was to write all of my posts ahead of time and schedule them nicely so I didn’t need to do too much while away, but of course that didn’t happen. xD

So I spent some time in sunny Florida and pretended summer isn’t disappearing here at home. AND I EVEN MANAGED NOT TO GET SUNBURNED! And my feet didn’t fall off despite walking about ten miles each day on average. Compare that to my usual two-ish miles a day at best and, uh, it was a change.

But did I manage to read? Welllll…. not really. 😂

Typically for me, a vacation or trip is pretty much synonymous to time spent reading. Even on my most active overseas explorations, there’s usually lots of time on trains, planes, buses, or at local parks to crack open a book. This time, I focused on intense daily activities that didn’t leave much time or energy for reading! I was usually out and about for 14-15 hours each day. It was really different than how I usually operate, but so much fun! I will definitely be doing it again.

Besides: it’s getting colder where I live and that means soon I won’t want to go outside and walk ten miles day. There will be plenty of time for reading. 😊

The best small things

Hey y’all! I’m just over here celebrating because I managed to snag a copy of No Words by Meg Cabot! It’s always a delight to be able to pick up a new book that I’ve been looking forward to. With this one, I got extra lucky: the library holds were all super long, but I found a less-popular digital format and was able to borrow it right away!

(EPub. It was ePub.)

I’ve already plowed through a third of it by the pool last night and am about to dive back in (har har). Hopefully this Fast Forward Friday book was worth the hype!
