This week’s prompt is One-Word Reviews for the Last Ten Books I Read (submitted by Susan @ Bloggin’ ’bout Books)! This is perfectly timed, because I read a good chunk of books in April but slouched on actually writing my reviews for them. 😅 So here I can at least get some super tiny reviews done for them!
Last 10 Finished Books, from least recent to most!
Entrancing
This book was weird, in a good way. I didn’t always know what was going on, and I just trusted it would help me find my way. Akin to wandering through a foggy dim forest and hoping I’ll make my way out. (Full review!)
Expansive
A multi-generational story covering immigration, marriage, identity, and so much more. I loved it!
Unpredictable
Possibly the highest praise I can give a book, especially a YA fantasy, since I can almost always predict every step of the way for that genre. This stunned me five or six times, and all in ways that fit the story well and didn’t feel forced! Solid story, really impressed!
Anti-trope
You think you know where this is going? Well so does Laura, and boy was she wrong. Maybe your meet-cute isn’t the one it looked like. 😊 Lovely and funny and hopeful and playful, this was a great whim of a read.
Focused
That might seem like a weird word for a romance, but it focused SO MUCH on the romance! If that’s what you’re looking for your in luck — especially since it just published today!! (Full review!)
Whelming
As in not under nor over. The beginning was exactly what I wanted: insight to Sylvanas’s life pre-banshee, then her deeper perspective in her forsaken years, and how exactly she ended up with the Jailer. The end was a little dull, though… much like the game when she’s with the Jailer. 🤷♀️
Cheeky
A book that relies on playing with the common tropes of a fantasy DnD-style party, this book was silly and fun and enjoyed making little tongue in cheek jokes about the expectations. I adored it! (Full review!)

Well, sigh. As most reviewers of this book seem to have felt, it’s no Foul is Fair, that’s for sure. Twist was clear from page 1 (if it was meant to be a twist?), and the style prevented me from caring about the characters much at all. (Full review!)
Grim
I know Boylan had a lot of personal struggle in her life, so this isn’t too surprising, but the way it felt grim is what surprised me. It kind of seems like all the dogs were unredeemable hellions in her eyes, and the overall tone was very stormcloud gray.
Legendary
Frickin’ Dava. I adored this book and I’m so glad my weak mind with the kindle achievements was swayed to finally read it. The floaty feeling of it is a perfect mirror to the story, and they characters are unapologetically real. Her damn legacy came true.

I love these one-word reviews! You’ve got me really curious about the titles that I haven’t heard of before and I think I might be adding a few to my TBR 👀 I’ve had Bloodleaf on my shelf for quite some time now and I don’t know why I haven’t picked it up yet cos I’ve heard lots of good things—unpredictable seems fitting with the things I’ve heard.

I haven’t read any of these, but you have me intrigued! The Bone Orchard and Dava Shastri’s Last Day sound especially good to me right now.

Yay! They’re very different from each other but each well done in their style. A friend said Bone Orchard has a similar vibe to Mexican Gothic if that helps give some vision of it as well
