Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I Haven’t Read Yet But Want To (plus one I realized I *have* read!)

Hey y’all! Top Ten Tuesday is a bookish question idea that was originally created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, from way back in June 2010! Since January 2018, Top Ten Tuesday has been hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Thanks for taking it over! The idea is to make a list of ten books or bookish things on different topics each week. Check out her site for details on how to join and what the upcoming prompts are. 😊 You can also see all the posts from other bloggers linked on each weekly post on their main site.

This week’s prompt is “Authors I’ve never read, but would like to” and considering most of the books I read in a year are by an author whom I’ve never read before, I should have plenty to choose from! I ended up including eleven because I wanted to highlight all of these authors. 😊

I also had a discovery going through my list when I found several books by Laura Sebastian and went to add her, when I saw that I actually have read a book by her already: Half Sick of Shadows. Which was really good. So now I want to read those other books of hers even more. xD

As you check out the author’s headshots below, see if you can name a book by each one of them! Let me know if the book you think of is not the one I mention later in the post. 🙂

A book by each author I’d like to read

All of these authors have several books on my list to be read, but below are ones that I heard of first, am most excited about, think people might recognize, etc. They all have so many good options though!!

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Americanah was the first book I’d heard of by her, but this is the most recent one I’ve added.

Shannon Hale

I bought this book blind, and as I put this list together I realized I had 2 other books by her on my list! Squirrel Meets World (one of my ultimate favorite series’) and Best Friends.

Min Jin Lee

As the top of the book says, Pachinko is the more recent hit that people might recognize her name from. However, this book was recommended to me a few times as well so I want to read this one too. 🙂

Viet Thanh Nguyen

This was the first book I found by him, but the others in the same vein (The Refugees, The Committed) are ones I want to read as well. ^.^

Jennifer Niven

A Jennifer from last week’s Top Ten Tuesday post, I still need to actually read something by her, whether this one or All The Bright Places.

Garth Nix

This was recommended to me recently, and I read a few chapters to see if I was interested. Spoiler: I am. Enough to say I’ll probably read this whole series. xD

Axie Oh

Again, folks might know her by her more recent release The Girl Who Fell Beneath The Sea which is a Fast Forward Friday pick for me. I’ll get to that one, but XOXO is one I want to read as well.

Nnedi Okorafor

Nnedi’s got a lot of sci-fi books with African themes and inspiration that I can’t wait to dive into. Noor is another title I’d like to read after the Akata Witch series!

Anuradha Roy

Stories of Indian life and love, All the Lives We Never Lived and Sleeping on Jupiter are also on my list.

Brandon Sanderson

My aunt gifted me the entire Mistborn set years ago and I never read it. BOOOO, ME. His name comes up all the time in fantasy so hey, I’ve GOT to read them now!

Elizabeth Tammi

This book was one of my first Fast Forward Friday picks... and I still haven’t read it yet. I’ve got to start with this one!! Then follow up with Outrun the Wind.

Are any of these authors on your list? Or do you have a favorite book by one of them? Drop a comment below!

  1. Great list, Jennifer! I want to read quite a few of these authors at some point this year too but I’m particularly excited to check out Nnedi Okorafor and Axie Oh. I hope you enjoy all of these authors/books 😍

    1. Same! Or at least if I can enjoy some of them haha. If you’re on storygraph we can try doing a buddy read of one at some point. I love their feature for buddy reads but don’t get to use it often!

  2. Okay, so I didn’t think of ANY of the books you’ve listed! I thought of Shannon Hale’s The Goose Girl, Garth Nix’s Left-Handed Booksellers of London, and Axie Oh’s Rebel Seoul. Then again, that’s probably because those are the books by these authors (which I have not yet read either) which are on MY TBR. I hope you enjoy reading these!

    1. Haha that’s awesome! So now I have more to add to my TBR as well ^.^ Rebel Seoul was vaguely on my radar, but I only heard of it while putting together this post so featured her others instead. I love Korea so that’s right up my alley haha

      1. OOoh fab! I hope they’re in keeping with the rest of his work. The experience alone of it sounds so fun for the community joining it. Enjoy!! Hope you post about them when you get the first one 🙂

  3. I love your picks! I’ve always wanted to read a Shannon hale book (I guess I’m just kinda intimidated because there are so many of them lol). I really enjoyed half a yellow sun, hope you do too if you get round to it! Here’s my TTT of the week, it was a quiz on fantasy books, see how many you know! 🙂 https://hundredsandthousandsofbooks.blog/2022/04/12/ttt-12-4-22-can-you-guess-what-urban-fantasy-books-these-words-are-from/
