January 2021 TBR: probably starting off slow

Hey y’all! I do recognize that it’s already almost halfway through the month, but nonetheless here is my TBR! In reality I probably wouldn’t have stuck to it anyway, so it doesn’t matter if I post it early in the month or not. 😂 Here are some of the books I’d had in mind to start off the year. 🙂

BOTM Delayed

Well in December I got two books from Book of the Month, Memorial and The Office of Historical Corrections. I didn’t read either of them in December because I was going all-in on challenge books and newer releases, so they’re on the list for January! Which works out, actually, because I’m not interested in any of this month’s BOTM selections.

Gifts and giveaways

I FINALLY got my copy of Skyhunter that I won from a Goodreads giveaway in, like, September! So I can read that now. xD Plus for Christmas, my boyfriend got me a copy of House of Earth and Blood which I originally was a bit lukewarm about but by the end, I was convinced. And also for Christmas, I got my mom and I each a copy of Zanna’s Gift by Orson Scott Card (and/or Scott Richards? I’m confused about it to be honest) so we can buddy read a cute little Christmas story!

Two more Fast Forward Friday features

At the end of December, I decided to take some time to read some of the releases from 2020 that I had been excited about, but hadn’t read yet. One of them was The Part About the Dragon was Mostly True and I had started it around the end of the month, but not yet finished it. That one is currently still in progress and going really slowly to be honest, so we’ll see where I end up with that. Plus The Arctic Fury is available on hoopla, and I’m pretty into the idea of women exploring the arctic / murder trial in Boston. So I may very well start that this month as well, even if I don’t finish it.

But some real talk…

Ey, look, this month has already been exhaustingly busy. As always… working on the house. Physical labor every weekend (and some weekdays) and a full time job and figuring out mortgage application and home insurance stuff every moment between… damn I’m tired, y’all. Some nights I just lay down and watch football until I fall asleep, and reading takes a backseat. So in reality, I fully expect to read like, one or two more books this month and that’ll be it. 🤷‍♀️ We’ll see what happens!
