Hey y’all! I imagine by now if you’re a reader of young adult fiction or fantasy, you’ve probably seen this striking cover in a promo somewhere by now:
Well, I’ve seen this cover for Skyhunter by Marie Lu often in the last several months and been quite torn over it. While it seemed like a no brainer book I would love — it’s by Marie Lu! It’s got a badass female MC! There are SECRETS, and maybe even a sinister plot to uncover! — for some reason I just… couldn’t commit to it. I felt so wary, like there’s something in the blurb making me think that this one, this one time, is just not for me.

So since I was torn on this book — would I love it or hate it? — I didn’t request an ARC from any sites. However, then I did see a giveaway on Goodreads, and figured I would enter and leave my decision to chance. If I happened to win the giveaway, I would give it a shot. Otherwise, I probably wouldn’t bother unless reviews and more info post-publication changed my mind.
And, well, I lost. Which really wasn’t surprising for such a popular book that had 8471 people enter. Which made my chances of winning 0.006 percent. 😂
So I entered again. And, I think, a third time. And I went to enter a fourth time —
the error
I got an error! Filled with mild indignant outrage, I scoured the page for the reason. Why am I being blocked from entering? Are they telling me to just give up on this book already??
“Sorry, you can’t enter this giveaway —”

Oh. ….OH! OH MY GOD! WHAT! THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO FIND OUT! REALLY?!

And so I await the copy of Skyhunter hopefully on its way to me! I’m sure it won’t get here before the publication date (September 29, 2020!) but that’s fine. I’m so curious now. This has been a strangely fun adventure, which I attribute in large part to the fact that stay at home orders for 6 months has largely reshaped my definitions of “fun” and “adventure.”
This was, coincidentally enough, the one morning in about 6 months that I did not check my emails at the beginning of the day. Sure enough, the giveaway notification was awaiting when I loaded it. 😂
Plus the one I won was a 0.003% chance, which makes me smug about all the times I lost. RNG ROLLS IN MY FAVOR ONCE AGAIN, Y’ALL!

Congrats! I have slept on Marie Lu a little bit in the past, but I am currently reading Warcross and I am obsessed. With that and the GORGEOUS cover of this book I am super psyched to hear what you think of it! Happy reading 💕

Thanks! I stumbled upon her Legend series a few years ago and was strangely taken with it despite also feeling like it was fairly run of the mill. There was just SOMETHING I loved. Warcross has been on my list too long, I really need to get around to it! We can trade reviews on her books, you with Warcross and me with Skyhunter xD

That’s amaaaazing! I wish I could enter Goodreads giveaways but alas, I’m international 😂 I love this cover and the synopsis has me intrigued so I’m looking forward to giving it a try. I need to read more Marie Lu!

Yeah that was a hard part of international life when I lived abroad for a while haha. Her Young Elites series also really packed a punch if you’re looking for something a bit darker. Luck! ✌

I’ve heard a lot of people mention that series! I’ve only read Warcross so far and enjoyed it but have to finish the series at some point 😅 Will defo check Young Elites out!
