A Picture’s Worth: Yugoslavian Trains & Hawaiian Islands

Words have always carried more weight with me than images – give me a book over its movie any day – but I do love to see the beautiful images other people create when they’re in love with a book. That’s not my strength, but I can certainly appreciate it in others! So here’s a few of my faves based on what I’ve been reading recently.

Murder on the Orient Express

Remember that time I said I was going to read this book? Well I am, and I don’t regret it. Plus, my god, there so many gorgeous photos since it’s been around forever. The resurgence in popularity when a movie was made semi-recently didn’t hurt either. It also made me realize I definitely have to do a cover roulette for this title!!

Perfectly capturing the feel of the story!!

I love the original covers from old stories

Love the commitment here, plus see what I’m saying about the cover roulette??

“Also published as Murder in the Calais Coach” — well, who knew?

Soothing, if over-saturated, colors and words

Moloka’i

Happened to pick this up at my favorite bookstore, and conveniently there was a recently published sequel (in comparison to when the first was published) that sounds amazing. Considering how much I liked this one, I’m sure I’ll pick up the next!

Tropical setting had to have a tropical background, right?

Classy pose – though dark colors make it feel kind of ominous

The gentle setup Rachel would have been thrilled to have

It’s mainly the sequel I mentioned, but technically the first book is there too 😉

Variety & consistency

These two are almost polar opposites in their cover styles, actually. The first has so many that there are certainly some so little known that they were never recorded. The second matches the style of its original and sequel seamlessly. I’d also like to note that Murder on the Orient Express is still so popular that all of those photos were posted only in the last week, with all but one being in the last DAY. Most were within a few HOURS of me putting this together! So really, I’ve barely scratched the surface of what’s out there.
